Maintain Engine Performance with Quality Spark Plugs

Most motorists know the function of spark plugs, but fewer understand the wear and tear process that leads to replacement. Spark plugs ignite the compressed fuel and air mixture inside your engine's combustion chambers. When plugs degrade, engine performance suffers and fuel economy drops. We carry genuine Nissan spark plugs calibrated precisely for your engine's specifications.

How Spark Plugs Ignite Fuel

Spark plugs receive high-voltage electricity from the ignition coil and create an electrical arc across a small gap. This spark ignites the compressed fuel mixture at exactly the right moment in the combustion cycle. The Nissan Frontier and Nissan Versa use different plug designs matched to their engine configurations and performance requirements. Each plug includes a ceramic insulator that prevents electricity from escaping while withstanding extreme temperatures. The center and ground electrodes form the gap where combustion begins thousands of times per minute.

Why Spark Plugs Degrade

Electrodes erode from constant exposure to electrical discharge and combustion heat. Carbon accumulates on the plug tip and prevents proper spark formation. The electrode gap gradually increases beyond specification as material wears away. Fuel deposits coat the insulator and create electrical leakage paths. Generic plugs often use inferior electrode materials that wear rapidly and don't maintain proper gap settings like genuine Nissan components.

When New Plugs Become Necessary

Replace plugs according to your maintenance schedule, usually between 30,000 and 100,000 miles depending on type. Engine misfires, rough idle, or reduced acceleration indicate worn plugs needing immediate attention. Difficulty starting or decreased fuel efficiency suggests plug replacement will restore performance.
